Beauty Sleep

for the first time since i graduated from college, i have a boss that actually cares about what time i get into work in the mornings. i have always operated under the motto of who cares what time you get in as long as you get your work done and that mantra worked quite well in my first job in public accounting as that was pretty much the operative that everyone worked under. sure there were times when i was just starting out that my senior would want me to get in earlier but that usually only lasted a couple weeks before i rotated off to another client so it never affected me too much. and if you were late, nobody really said anything because how could they when you were already pulling in twelve plus hour days?

but now it has all changed and i have a boss, or the principal as we like to call him, that not only just cares about being punctual and setting a good example for the department but one that also mentally keeps track of when you get in each day. were also pretty sure that he makes the rounds each morning to see who is in and out which is quite unfortunate for me as my office is right next to his but despite all this, he is growing on me and i actually dont mind reporting to him as i thought i would initially.

before this, i was rolling into work around 9:30am everyday which isnt too bad in my book but now im expected to be in by 8:45am which realistically is not that much of a difference but that one extra hour of sleep is crucial. my body is just not used to getting up any earlier. when he first told us of this, i still kept coming in late everyday mainly because i had visitors and would stay up till the wee hours of the morning but just last week, he brought it up to me again so now ive been making an extra effort to get in on time.

surprisingly, i havent gotten in trouble or anything in fact we joke about it all the time. i even told him that i needed a couple extra days to get used to the new time schedule and he just laughed and encouraged me with "you can do it!" i am much more cognizant of my bedtime hours now though and have set up two alarms to make sure i get up on time. so far so good but lets see how long this lasts. corporate life is a bitch no?

the people who work for me need to be in by 8:30am with a 15 minute grace period. thus if you're in at 8:46am you will be considered LATE!

welcome to the real world! :D
