im putting a boycott on nice restaurants for a little while. for how long i haven't decided yet but ive come to the conclusion that it's just not worth it. and by nice restaurants i mean where the total for one person is $75 or more. ive been eating at really nice places a lot lately and each time, it's rare that ive walked out thinking wow that meal was so worth $150. because most of the time it isn't. i can usually get the same amount of satisfaction if not more at a grubby little place in chinatown or a thai place around town. i mean for what ive spent on one meal, i can eat at chinatown for the entire month and it would be just fine.
the fun of going to nice restaurants is that they're usually well known and reviewed online so it's always fun to try it for yourself after reading the review and then compare. plus the decor and space itself is pretty spiffy and cool looking and sometimes the plating is interesting to see too (a term im now using after watching top chef). but i mean for that, i can just go get a drink at the bar or something and sneak a peak at the plates coming out of the kitchen to see what they look like.
so in turn this has led to my conclusion that i need to ban nice restaurants because no matter how much i look forward to it, i usually end up disappointed at the end of the night and a little poorer too. from now on, i will concentrate on finding new cheap to medium priced places around the city to eat at.
on other culinary news if you can call it that, what im most excited about is that harold's sandwich is going to be on the menu of the new wichcraft that is opening up at the new center down the street from my work. this is big news! harold if you recall was one of my favorites on top chef and is now who im rooting for in next week's finale.
and on top of that, ill be hosting my own little dinner party in the next couple of weeks where i will be in charge of cooking (with much help of course) and as i just received my first shipment from the wine club i joined a couple weeks ago, it should be fun. yes im turning more and more yuppy as the days go on but i do live in white yuppyville here so they must be rubbing off on me.
